A Message from the President

Thank you for visiting the website of the Harvard Business School Club of Arizona! Founded in 1973, the HBS Club of Arizona serves its members through educational programming, professional networking, and social activities with the aim of strengthening bonds among HBS alumni throughout the state and supporting the School’s mission of educating leaders who make a difference in the world.

To that end, as we enter the 2009/10 program year, the Club has put together an outstanding line-up of speakers and events that are sure to enlighten, enrich and even entertain! Our signature event is the monthly executive speaker luncheon, called the Arizona Business Forum, at which prominent leaders who impact the state’s economy and business environment are invited to address our members and other professionals in a public forum. Confirmed speakers for our monthly executive speaker luncheon include Michael Bidwill, President of the Arizona Cardinals and Chairman of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council; Robert Mittelstaedt, Dean of the W.P. Carey School of Business at ASU; Donald Robinson and James Hatfield, President and Chief Operating Officer of Arizona Public Service and Chief Financial Officer of Pinnacle West Capital Corporation, respectively; among others.

We also will be holding several social and networking events throughout the year, such as the Young Alumni Group, which is an affinity group designed to reach out to with our younger alumni and provide them with an opportunity to connect with others in similar career stages.

The Club will continue its proud tradition of awarding one annual fellowship to an Arizona nonprofit executive to attend the week-long “Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management” executive education program at HBS in Boston. Last year’s recipient, Aaron Blocher-Rubin of Arizona Autism United, will report on what he has taken away from the program – which he called “a truly unique learning experience” – at an upcoming executive speaker luncheon.

Together with the Board of Directors, I am honored to serve the Club and seek to be a good custodian of this privilege. I look forward to an exciting year ahead and hope to see you soon at a future Club event.

Warm regards,

Jon K. Andersen
President, MBA ‘03
